Chief Executive Officer/ Chief Librarian

Job description:

The CEO/Chief Librarian is responsible for providing circulation, reference, and adult services system-wide, as well as manages the Murillo and Rosslyn Branches.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Implement service delivery as directed by the Library Board
  • Supervise and provide effective operations of public services
  • Recommend, develop and implement new solutions for the delivery of library services using project management skills
  • Prepare publicity, displays and maintain social media for library services and programs
  • Support collaborative partnerships with professional and government agencies
  • Provide direction with regard to collections, including budgeting, development, maintenance and rotation of collections
  • Prepare reports for the Library Board, and grant and funding proposals as required
  • Seek fund-raising opportunities
  • Recommend the allocation of resources to ensure the efficient and effective operation for service areas
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders in promoting the benefits and value of public library service
  • Represent the library in the community through the promotion of outreach and library services, participate on committees as required
  • Promote a welcoming and inviting library environment
  • Actively support a culture of safety for staff and patrons
  • Support and connect vulnerable people (including seniors, children) and people with complex needs to library resources and services
  • Promote the Library by responding to public input
  • Attend all Library Board meetings as a resource to present and provide information concerning the Library
  • Establish an effective team work environment

Essential qualifications:

  • Experience with public library operations
  • Knowledge of public library standards, service delivery and best practices
  • Knowledge of library circulation, information services, and programming
  • Experience with operating budget
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with library databases and integrated library systems

Work environment/hours of work:

  • This position works weekday hours, occasional evening and weekend hours, and on call after hours and on weekends

Driver’s license/vehicle requirements:

Because this position is required to travel between work locations, a valid Province of Ontario driver’s license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary

Background Check:

Successful candidates are required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: Police Criminal Record Check, education/certification, and employment reference check.

  • Sitting: constant sitting in a chair
  • Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement) and mousing
  • Lifting: transferring library collection items between branches, working with boxes of donated items
